Default Newbie questions

Hi!

Got some noob questions:

1, How can i determine which expansion am i usin'(i'm in a city called Kamadan, Jewel of Istan)? Right after the game installed i could make a character but not to choose from the expansions.(GW Complete Collection)
2, Whats the major difference between the expansions? Which is the best choise for a beginner?
3, I heard there is a lvl cap @ 20. What happens after that? Because i can now redistribute my points every time i visit an outpost but can i do that after i reached the level cap or my last set befor the lup is gonna be my final.
4,I explored ~50% of the little starter island and i'm already lvl16. So if i reach 20 on the starter location and go after to the "mainland" what can i expect.
5, Where can i find a basic item-guide?

Sorry if these questions sound silly but i couldn't find a good starter-guide on the web.
Thanks for the answers.

1. if u have gw complete collections
u should have all 3 campaigns:
prophecies (ascalon), factions (shing jea), nitefall (kamadan)

u should be able to choose when making character

2. the order of the campaigns r:
a. prophecies
b. factions
c. nitefall

i personally prefer nitefall or factions for a beginner (allows for the fastest learning progression)
but others recommend doin em in order (proph is easier, but u'll learn much slower imo)

3. u can redistribute freely as many times as u want

4. the norm is to be lvl 20 by the time u get off the starter island
character ability is determined more by skills (builds) than anything else

5. f10 or wiki.guildwars.com

Kamadon means you are in Nightfall.
The 3 first games are all separate continents that you can create characters in and move characters from one game to another at will (eventually).
Eye of the North is separate in that you can't make a new character in it, but you can bring your other characters to it. NF and Factions levels up your characters faster then the first game, GW Prophecies. That game is probably the best for a beginner if you want a slow learning curve and to learn the game mechanics gradually.

The game really "begins" at level 20. Everything else is just a tutorial really. The monsters and quests will continue to get harder. Ie, you will eventually be fighting against groups of level 30 monsters, and you'll still be level 20. That means you won't be able to win just by sheer power. You actually have to know game mechanics and strategy to succeed at the endgame. You can change your build (ie, your points and skills) at any time in a town. That never changes. You can even change your secondary profession later.
At level 16, make sure to be following the Primary Quests (they should be the quests at the top of your quest log [the L key]) to advance the storyline and reach the mainland. There is plenty of story still to be seen.

If you are in Kamadan, you started in Nightfall, which is third in sequence (Order: Prophecies, Factions, Nightfall, Eye of the North). I haven't started a new character, so I can't remember how to choose between expansions. Although, if you started with a Dervish or a Paragon, those two must start in Nightfall. (Asassins and Ritualists must start in Factions).

Personally, I think all beginners should begin at the beginning...in Prophecies. But you will get to level 20 faster if you start in Nightfall (as you are finding out). The main difference is this: Prophecies is the start of Guildwars and so has multiple terrains. In Factions, they went with an Asian theme and focuses primarily on a city. It also has the beautiful Jade Sea and Mysterios Echovold Forest. Nightfall has an African theme, and seems to be mostly desert and barren landscapes. Eye of the North is kind of like Prophecies in that it has many various landscapes. As far as skills and difficulty, they are all about the same. However, you can only get Heroes in Nightall and EotN, which make the game much more enjoyable (at least for me they did).

After lvl 20, you just keep getting experience points, but you will not get a higher level. After you reach level 20, you want to work on other ways of gaining "status" in the game, such as titles and elite armor/weapons. You will always be able to redistribute your skill points in every town and outpost forever and ever as much as you want. This is true for your heroes as well.

In Nightfall, it is helpful to get to lvl 17+ before you leave the Island. That is because the mainland area is primarily for those who are lvl 20. So you are doing well at lvl 16. Once you get to the mainland, the missions, quests, and foes tend to get harder. Once you beat the game, you will also be able to play through it in "Hard Mode" which is harder still (and will help contribute toward your titles.)

For all my questions about Guild Wars (such as an item guide) I use this site and gw.gamewikis.org

Hope that helps! Feel free to PM me in game for help or more questions.

In-game PM is click on Whisper and input persons name, then type message and hit enter.

In guru, click on person's name and select Send a private Message.

i'd recommend making a new one
u -can- travel between continents, but when travelling to tyria (prophecies) u'll be starting half-way through the storyline/campaign

make a new proph chara so u can experience the story and campaign from the beginning

(however keep ur old chara too! i really dun recommend deletin charas unless u need the free slots)

Just to summerize a little

When you select to make a char..roleplay

you then will see the 3 windows to select from Proficies...Factions..Nightfall

you select what continent you wish to start on.

Nightfall gives you Heros who will level up as you do also as you play the game through

Creating a char on Proficies and Factions will not.....until you take the char you made over to Kamadden (nightfall).you will get heros straight away as you arrive there.

So if you wish a Dervish or a Paragon...its nightfall

If you wish an Assasin or a Ritulist then its Factions

You can create any of the others in any of the 3 campaigns

Hope this helps you some
